Apple designs the chips that power its phones. The iPhone 7 operates on the new A10 Fusion chip and the iPhone 8 is likely to run on an A11 chip.
The company has reportedly outsourced the manufacturing of the chips to TSMC, Taiwan who has finalized the design and is in the process of obtaining certification from Apple.

Wireless Charging

Apple is working on perfecting the technology for long range wireless technology. In order to achieve this, it has to devise a way to minimize the loss that occurs when the transmitter and receiver are placed at a greater distance from each other.
This advanced technology will enable phones to be charged without the need for a charging point or mat in close proximity.
Apple has been extensively hiring engineers who have expertise in wireless charging. Thus strongly indicating that wireless charging is indeed one of the new features of iPhone 8.
